Restored T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb 12-Drawer Dresser Blue/Mahogany

About the Item

Designed by American design legend T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, this dresser was made by Widdicomb for distribution by John Stuart Inc. Typical of pieces by these groups, the construction quality on this dresser is extremely high. The finely grained mahogany exterior has been refinished in a warm medium color, making it closer to a walnut while retaining plenty of character. This is contrasted by the twelve expansive drawers, which increase in size towards the bottom. These have been painted in a pleasant Robin's Egg Blue, and have been treated to a semi gloss sheen. Two of the left drawers have wooden interior partitions for increased practicality. This, along with its finished back, is set on a solid mahogany base with a third leg hidden in the middle to eliminate sagging over time. This example has been professionally and expertly restored. It was dismantled and each piece was chemically stripped and hand-sanded. Medium finish was applied to the body, followed by a few coats of clear lacquer for enhanced protection and clarity into the grain. A very pleasant blue was applied to the drawers, which were then hand-polished with wax and steel wool. This leaves them a slight shine. These contrast nicely with the brass pulls, two on each drawer. Perfect for any bedroom or living space, you will be sure to love everything about this dresser.
