About the Item

This stunning and unique high bar cabinet, designed by the legendary Gio Ponti for the home of Guglielminetti, a renowned decor designer for RAI, is a true masterpiece of Italian mid-century modern design. Crafted in Italy in 1955, the cabinet features exquisite rosewood veneer, complemented by solid mahogany feet on the sides, which add both elegance and a playful touch to the overall design. The balance and symmetry of the piece are unmistakably “Tutto Ponti,” with outstanding woodworking details and a perfect finish that highlights the craftsmanship of the era. The back of the cabinet is just as impressive as the front, with geometrically placed slats creating an eye-catching visual impact from any angle. The solid mahogany feet, with their darker hue compared to the rosewood veneer, seem to “carry” the cabinet, giving it a dynamic, almost sculptural quality. A truly unique feature of this cabinet is the screenprint by Georges Braque, displayed behind glass in the center of the piece. The print is a perfect blend of art and design, elevating the functionality of the cabinet into a piece of art. The cabinet also offers practical storage, with two folding doors at the bottom revealing a spacious interior, two open sections in the middle for bottles, and a folding top with a brass knob. The top section has two large doors with glass shelves, ideal for storing glasses or other items. This exceptional piece retains its original solid brass keys and is in fully original condition, with a gentle patina developed over time. It also comes with a certificate from the Gio Ponti archives, adding to its authenticity and historical significance. A rare and remarkable piece that perfectly embodies the elegance and innovation of Gio Ponti’s design philosophy.
