About the Item
Richard Young for Merrow Associates Bar Cart, 1965 – Rio Rosewood & Chrome
A bar cart / drinks trolley designed by Richard Young for Merrow Associates in 1965, featuring a chrome-plated steel frame and two tiers of Rio rosewood shelving. The wood’s rich grain contrasts with the polished metal, creating a clean, modern aesthetic. The top shelf has a raised lip, ensuring items stay in place, while the lower shelf provides additional storage. The cart moves smoothly on discreet castors, making it both practical and stylish.
Merrow Associates was a British furniture company producing high-quality, modernist designs in the 1960s and ‘70s. Richard Young, trained at the Royal College of Art, was influenced by Bauhaus and Scandinavian design, focusing on precision engineering and refined materials.
