French Transitional 19th Century Ladies Writing Secretaire
About the Item
A charming French 19th century Transitional style tulipwood, ormolu, and white Carrara marble secretary desk. The secretary is raised by fine cabriole legs with elegant foliate ormolu sabots. The scalloped-shaped apron is centered by a fine ormolu mount below three drawers. Each of the drawers is decorated with a pierced central ormolu keyhole escutcheon with a charming tied ribbon and two berried laurel pulls at either side set on a butterfly veneered tulipwood background and framed in a beautiful Charnwood band. The drop front 'Abattan' above displays faux leather books with fine gold-tooled writing which opens to reveal a fitted gold-tooled leather writing surface, two shelves, and two small drawers. Above is the original fitted white Carrara marble top framed within a fine pierced wrap-around ormolu gallery. All original gilt and patina throughout.
