19th Century Empire St. Mahogany, Ormolu, Bronze & Fruitwood Secretary

About the Item

A most handsome Continental mid 19th century Empire st. mahogany, ormolu, patinated bronze and ebonized fruitwood drop front secretary. The secretary is raised by four square tapered legs ending with ebonized fruitwood claw feet over a octagon shaped support. The straight front apron has two drawers with recessed panels bordered by ormolu bands and flanked by ormolu ovals mounts. The drop front is decorated by an ormolu elongated diamond shape and outer ormolu band border. At each side are tapered columns decorated with Cariatides. The interior is fitted with several compartments and seven drawers with their original pulls. The original leather remains on the writing surface. At the top lays its original marble top.
