Gianfranco Frattini 804 Rolltop desk for Bernini, 1962

About the Item

The 804 secretaire is one of the most significant pieces of Gianfranco Frattini's creativity. Designed in 1962 for Bernini, it highlights Frattini's exceptional design prowess and the skilled craftsmanship of the historic Bernini company. The 804 is a versatile object that conceals a surprise within. Through a simultaneous movement that involves pulling out the work surface and sliding open a roll-top cover, the 804 transforms from a cabinet into a practical writing desk. The change in use and appearance of the roll-top occurs through a sophisticated and precisely calibrated extraction mechanism. Inside, you'll find a leather-covered work surface, a myriad of charming drawers in various sizes, and an unusual storage compartment. Beneath the writing surface, there is a central front section composed of two rows of five spacious drawers. The back of the secretaire features four open compartments, making it ideal for use as a centerpiece in a room, even in smaller living spaces. The transparent glass top not only protects the structure but also serves as a functional shelf. The entire structure is crafted from fine walnut wood, complemented by an anodized aluminum base with wooden feet. The 804 secretaire comes with an authenticity certificate issued by Bernini.
