About the Item

A very handsome chest in West Indies mahogany with shaped drawer above fall-front that opens to a secretary, over three large storage drawers. Interior desk offers a multitude of small drawers surrounding a closed, center compartment flanked by rope-turned columns & open cubbies with Gothic arches. Chamfered corners of chest are decorated with carved appliqués of fleur-de-lis. The exquisite craftsmanship of this chest is heightened by the beauty of the expert book-matching of the crotch mahogany used throughout. Sweden, circa 1845. Comes with working locks and keys. Chest is in two sections, making it easy to install & transport. Our French polish & restoration is of museum quality. Measures: 44 1/2" wide x 21" deep x 54" high (37 1/4" deep with fall-front open); 32" height from floor to writing surface Why do we rate this piece in Good conditon and not Excellent? Condition and Wear as defined by 1stdibs Excellent - Like new or has never been used. Absolutely no scratches or wear. Has no structural issues and is in perfect condition. Good - Very light scratches of minor wear to some areas of the piece. Most antique and vintage items fit this condition. No structural issues.
