Inspired by his 1994 design Columnata, a name that comes from his continuous reference to the column in his work, Oscar Tusquets brings us the New Peristylo shelf.

DETAILS
A simple shelving system ideal for book-lovers and anyone who enjoys such compositional and symbolic harmony. With an awareness of functionality and a passion for architectural history, Tusquets created a structure both efficient and sculptural. 'Peristylo' derives from the Greek Peristyle, a structure surrounded by columns. These columns also appear recurrently in Tusquets’ paintings and encase own home. The Peristylo is imbedded both in the far away past and in the designer' personal history. And they return again in the Peristylo, encasing the horizontal planks and running upwards into Doric capitals. Available in four sizes, the shelf is modular and can be free-standing, wall-hung, or organised in various combinations.
MATERIALS AND FINISHES
The dense columns and the horizontal shelves of Peristylo are crafted from FSC-certified black-stained solid ash wood.

Within this vertical structure, the horizontal shelves can be arranged in various formations— symmetrical and asymmetrical, wall-hung or free-standing. Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation, and a writer through the desire to make friends. Graduating from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in 1965, Tusquets became a member of Studi Per. Together, they founded BD in 1972, and he set about designing furniture and objects, soon recognised by the Spanish National Design Award.
