About the Item

This striking Baroque “Wellenschrank” (wave cabinet) was crafted in Nuremberg, Southern Germany around 1730 and represents the highest level of craftsmanship of its period. The cabinet’s iconic façade features dramatically fluted and curved doors veneered in bookmatched walnut laid cross-grain on solid softwood. The sides are constructed in oak and adorned with intricate walnut inlays – a detail rarely found and highly sought after among collectors. The powerful yet elegant silhouette is crowned by a sculptural, serpentine cornice, and the piece rests on compressed bun feet, all original to the cabinet. The interior offers generous shelving space and retains its authentic character, while the original floral-engraved brass lock plate stands as a testament to its artisanal origin. This rare example of a Nuremberg Baroque wardrobe is ideal for sophisticated interiors, combining historical prestige with striking presence.
