About the Item

Large wardrobe unit attributed to Gio Ponti 1950s. Veneered wood structure, brass, mirrored glass, wool fabric, painted metal details. The wardrobe is composed of 2 overlapping units, sliding door, wardrobe compartment, clothes hanger, mirror, sliding elements compartment, unique piece. Bibliography: For comparison see Pandolfini auctions, similar model, Colombari gallery, similar model. Gio Ponti was born in Milan on November 18, 1891 and graduated in architecture at the Regio Politecnico in 1921. He soon established a long partnership with his friend Emilio Lancia, which led to the inauguration of a first professional studio in which, for a short time, Ponti was also associated with Mino Fiocchi. The link with Lancia continued until 1933, when a new firm was founded, led by engineers Eugenio Soncini and Antonio Fornaroli; in 1945, Soncini left to be replaced seven years later by the young architect Alberto Rosselli, with whom Ponti and Fornaroli will remain until the premature death of Rosselli (1976) and, shortly thereafter, the death of the same Ponti, occurred in Milan on September 16 three years later.
