About the Item
A vasiform baluster pedestal with birdcage sits atop a very graceful tripod base with each leg terminating in a slender ball and claw foot. An especially robust forged iron spider is fitted beneath. Each downswept cabriole leg has fine meandering acanthus springing from a large rosette and decorative lappets marking the transition to the baluster. The top is a single board of mahogany with good deep figure and color, finished with a bull nose edge. Provenance: private collection, acquired from respected dealer Philip Bradley Antiques 2001. Attributed by Philip Bradley to NY, ca. 1760-1780. Very good condition, a good even finish, minor wear, signs of age and use: some minor dark marks to the top, one very tight partial age crack through the center the heart wood on the top.
