Large American Pennsylvania Cherry Dish Top Tilt Top Table with Pad Feet

About the Item

A handsome medium toned cherry three board top with a tight moulded edge, resting on a baluster base with multiple turnings, most notably the banded sphere anchoring the standard. The birdcage has a nicely formed pin and separate catch plate. Robust downswept cabriole legs terminate in substantial “horseshoe” pad feet. Attractive timber with an open grain pattern. Good antique condition, with a good even finish, typical signs of age and wear: some small losses (a divot to one horseshoe, and a smaller one to the edge of the top), dings, a tight age crack through the heartwood of the center board of the top. One butterfly at a transition beneath the top. Provenance: Philip Bradley Antiques 2016; attributed by Philip Bradley to Lancaster County, PA, ca. 1790.
