About the Item

A rare exceptionally carved Rococo rosewood center table with rectangular top with gadrooned edge above a conforming frieze with an apron carved in deep relief with scrolling vinery centering a shell with a C-scroll molded frame, with the background carved with rows of floral squares, raised on bold cabriole legs with molded edge and large scalloped returns centering a carved cartouche of flower heads, scrolling leaf tips, and drapery, terminating with dramatic ball and claw feet with carved knuckles. Portuguese in origin, probably dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, in very good condition, with minor restorations to the apron at the leaf tips, minor edge losses, shrinkage cracks, some surface scratches and light expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 33.5 in H x 44.5 in W x 28.75 in D.

    Repaired: Minor repairs and restorations to the gadrooned edges and apron leaf tips. On the legs, some of the joints have been restrengthened at some point. The top seams were also tightened. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Very good condition, with minor restorations to the apron at the leaf tips, minor edge losses, shrinkage cracks, some surface scratches and light expected wear from age and use.
