English 19th Century Burl Walnut and Ormolu Tilt-Top Center Table
About the Item
A stunning and extremely decorative English 19th century burl Walnut, Maplewood, Charmwood, and ormolu tilt top center table signed Edwards & Roberts. The circular table is raised by elegant lightly curved legs with their original casters and adorned with finely chased foliate ormolu mounts flanking female maidens. Four striking circular tapered fluted supports lead upwards with exquisite reeded bands and fine rosettes centering a superb topie shaped urn decorated in the same manner. The top tilts upon its original hardware and displays a stunning burl Walnut center framed within Maplewood and Charmwood fillets, and rosettes with a fine mottled border and ormolu gallery.
Edwards & Roberts London, was founded in 1845 They became one of the leading London cabinetmakers and retailers working in a variety of styles including Neo-Classical and revivalist. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay, and ormolu. Edwards & Roberts was one of the principal London companies working in the taste of the late 18th century, including French furniture of the ancien régime. Their work is of a quality that equals the creations of the French ébenistes of the eighteenth century.
