Fine Late 19th C Italian Marble Center Table
About the Item
This carved marble center table comes from Italy and was made in the late 19th century. Bought as an outdoor table buy us this could and might have been used at one point as an indoor table. The pedestal carved in one kind of marble that is white but flooded with grey veining is often used by Italian craftsmen to band or contain colored specimen marble in floor or architectural details. The top and a small section of the pedestal are in a much denser statuary white Cararra marble creating a two toned effect. The table completely disassembles for transportation and making moving or placement easier. The table is carved and deigned in a classical style but would be considered neoclassical revival because of the date of creation. Carved on the pedestal as a series of large acanthus leaves in high relief which correspond to the same carved elements which terminate in up turned leaves on the base.The statuary marble elements have a denser higher polish creating a dramatic contrast to the elements throughout more typical of marble furniture designed for interior use but interior or exterior the function is the same. At some point there have been minor chipping to some ends of the leaf tips almost exclusively at the top of the pedestal. These chipped parts have been meticulously reattached and are in place causing no loss to the deign and are not visible unless the top is removed or one squats to inspect the top of the pedestal.

- Condition:Repaired: small elements of the carving have chipped off in the past and been reattached, and its possible that the top has been replaced but its hard to tell as there is an exact marble match in the upright support pedestal. Wear consistent with age and use.
