French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany, Onyx and Ormolu Table
About the Item
An exquisite and unusual French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany, onyx, and ormolu table signed FOREST. The table is raised by elegant fluted tapering legs with ormolu laurel leaf sabots and ormolu reeded floral mounts. The straight apron has an attractive central ormolu scene of "The Coronation of Mercury' and scrolling foliage. An acorn leaf garland adorns each corner and at the top is an impressive fitted green onyx. Maison Forest was established at 14 rue Pierre-Picard in 1883 and at 31 rue Cambaceres, Paris. The furniture produced by the firm stands out for its high-quality gilt-bronze mounts and for its notable ebenisterie and fine decoration.
