French Restauration Mahogany Center Table with Variegated Marble Top
About the Item
Large French Restoration period (circa 1815-1830) mahogany center table with variegated black and white marble top. The base stands on a central lobed pedestal with three legs with impressive carved lion's heads terminating in paw feet with casters. The variegated black and white marble top is nicely veined with shades of grey, and features a double-gorge edge and deep molding around the perimeter.

This elegant and beautifully carved wooden center table from France incorporates design elements from two of the most popular French periods.
The intricate hand-carved base exhibits aspects of the Rococo style: highly ornamental with asymmetrical carvings, scrolling curves and gilding. Although the wood has since been stripped, the table has a few faint traces of gold remaining in places.
