About Pier Luigi Colli : History The company was founded in Turin in 1850, as a workshop that performed embroidery for the upholstery of armchairs and sofas. The factory collaborated with the company "Martinotti e C.ia manufacturer of furniture", of Giuseppe and then Luigi Martinotti, which since 1831 produced luxury furniture in style and from the end of the century in the most up-to-date Art Nouveau style On the death of Federico Martinotti, the last male descendant of the family, in the 1920s, his widow handed over the business to Teresa and Maria Colli and the two companies reunited, assuming the name "Colli dal 1831" (with the date referring to the foundation of the Martinotti company). Later Pier Luigi Colli (1895-1968), the younger brother of the two owners, also joined the family business, who had attended courses at the École des arts décoratifs in Paris. Thanks to close relations in Paris, Pier Luigi Colli imported Lalique glass and Jean Perzel's deco lamps into Turin. The company took care of the preparation of the royal train, built by Fiat Ferroviaria and the technical office, led by Pier Luigi Colli, designed and produced the seats of the great hall of the University of Turin and the furnishings of the Turin headquarters of the Bank of Italy and the prefecture. In addition to furniture, the company produced embroideries for upholstery and curtains, carpets, lamps with Seguso glass, windows and door handles. The firm also produced works designed by external architects: Gio Ponti (partition walls and the windows of the Vembi headquarters in Turin), Giovanni Gariboldi (furniture for the Richard Ginori showroom in Rome), Carlo Mollino (handrail of the RAI auditorium and windows of the Teatro regio), Domenico Morelli (furniture of the Rai skyscraper); Gabetti and Isola (neo-liberty furnishings of the Stock Exchange)[2] Aldo Morbelli (furnishings of the Fasano jewelery shop in via Roma in Turin). In the moment of greatest success, branches were opened in Milan (Corso Matteotti) and in Rome (Piazza di Spagna), which remained active until the 1950s. When Pier Luigi Colli died, his daughter Claudia succeeded him and continued the business with high-quality serial production until it closed in the 1980s. The company archive including photographs, drawings, plans and even documents transferred from the previous Martinotti company is managed by the architect Davide Alaimo. Part of the projects has been deposited in the State Archives of Turin, Pier Luigi Colli fund.
