About the Item

A beautiful rectangular shaped Brutalist coffee table designed and crafted by Marcus Kingma, in the Netherlands in 1992. The heavy deep green concrete top rests on a base of two brown lacquered metal bases. The stunning composition of slate, stones, copper and brass makes this table a real work of art to use. This masterpiece from Marcus Kingma is a testament to brutalist architecture, so fashionable in the latter part of the 20th century. Signed with a brass plate mark “M. Kingma ‘92” to the top. Marcus Kingma (brother of Paul Kingma) was well known for his architectural tables that pay a tribute to the riches of nature by traveling extensively in search of rare materials, whether raw or industrially produced. He combines recourse to materials used in architecture like stone, metal and concrete, with rich varied materials as brass, copper, glass or ceramic. The Brutalist concept is generally associated with rough, unpolished surfaces that convey a sense of unfinished Design or deliberate neglect. Structures can take unusual and modular forms to form functional zones grouped into a whole, presenting a robust appearance primarily due to heavy-looking materials. All his tables are unique one-off creations, most of which were special orders commissioned by clients. All of his tables are marked (the early ones only at the bottom). From the 1960s he started marking them with a metal tag at the top and later he also added the production year. We offer complimentary shipping to all our customers in Great Britain. CONDITION The two brown metal supports to the bottom have been fixed to the table top using brown silicone.
