Classic Tesselated Fossil Stone and Inlaid Brass Coffee Table by Maitland Smith
About the Item
This beautifully handcrafted coffee table with a glass center panel and inlaid brass borders was made by Maitland Smith in the Philipines in the 1980s. It is a rare piece made in the neoclassical style with its ionic fluted pillars ending in a scroll or volute. The table is covered in small tiles made from fossil stone in a variety of colors. Each tile is unique and shows an intricate fossil pattern. The tiles have a smooth polished surface with a deep gloss. The inlaid brass border was polished to a high gloss and enhances the classic look of the piece. The whole table was gently cleaned and the tessellated fossil stone was polished to enhance the gloss. The center panel is made from a thick piece of cut glass and sits in a brass profile. The dimensions of the glass plate are 25.8 inches by 25.8 inches. The coffee table is in great condition, without damage, clean, and ready for use.
