About the Item
Round Glass Coffee Table Gemme by Hervé Langlais and Perrin & Perrin.
Hervé Langlais is a graduate of the Normandy School of Architecture in Rouen. He collaborated with Paul Andreu for over fifteen years, working on the National Grand Theater of China in Beijing and the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai. In parallel to his work with Andreu, Langlais’ personal projects led him to design interiors for private homes. While designing for a number of studios, Langlais founded his own design studio in 2006, loyal to his guiding principles of combining precision and purity of design with high quality materials. Since 2012, he has been working in close collaboration with Sophie Negropontes, designing a yearly collection of luminaires and furniture. Langlais has also created Galerie Negropontes’ unique stands for trade fairs in France and abroad. Hervé Langlais’ creations are in keeping with the French Decorative Arts, renewing a tradition of excellence in which luxury and modernity come together.
Martine and Jacki Perrin sculpt together as one, forming a duo enriched by their individualities. For over a decade they have explored the potential of ceramics in parallel with their practice of Far Eastern calligraphy. Glass became their preferred medium and they developed the unique method of “Build-in-Glass” which allowed them to constantly explore new boundaries and to continuously develop and renew their work. They create dense and compact blocks in which they sculpt both monumental and more intimate pieces, in unique shapes and colours. One of the distinguishing features of their work is the constant play on transparency, porosity and above all, light. They find their inspiration in scriptural and musical constructions, as well as in the revelation of geological processes or phenomena. Their work, born out of the four elements, has an intrinsic coherence and a unique beauty.

After having explored rare materials, then the sculptural aspects of design in the vein of Brancusi and finally graphics, Hervé Langlais devotes to color his fourth collection colored Abstractions for Galerie Negropontes. Hervé Langlais has chosen to highlight color by using pure geometric forms. Inspired by the artists of the geometric abstraction movement of the 1950s and 1960s, he uses the line as a structural base for his creations. From Josef Albers - professor at Bauhaus and instigator of Op Art - Langlais retains the observation of the interaction between colors and the importance of perception. The eye is the driving force behind the work which flirts with the decorative, the playful and aspects of fashion.
Langlais' works allow for the transition from flat, pictorial references to his 3D vision. Thus the side tables and Nénuphar table use the circle.
