Custom-Made Two-Tone Coffee Table w/ Drop-Leaf in Maple & Walnut, USA, c. 1960s

About the Item

Custom-made in the 1960's this truly one-of-a-kind coffee table is unlike anything we've ever come across. Built from an incredibly bold mix of solid and veneered walnut and birdseye maple this two-tone table is replete with exceptional old-growth woodgrains, innovative storage and intricate joinery. Featuring a clever drop-leaf design that allows the table to extend via a clever set of locking hinges this table is as versatile as it is aesthetically breath-taking. Below the table sits a fixed shelf with single divider making it the perfect place for storing books, magazines and laptops. Simultaneously petite and ample this versatile table is ideal for those who are limited on space but unwilling to compromise on style and functionality. With nothing else out there like it this shape-shifting table is the very epitome of "extraordinary" and can blend seamlessly against a multitude of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Space Age and everything in between. Make it yours today before it's truly gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Extended Width: 28.25 in / 71.76 cm Width: 59 in / 149.86 cm Depth: 21.25 in / 53.98 cm Height: 17.25 in / 43.82 cm Save for a minor veneer repair this extraordinary coffee table is in original, vintage condition! The mix of solid walnut and veneered birdseye maple are in overall very good vintage condition showing only a few small chips in the veneer, minor surface scratches, minor discoloration on one leg and the aforementioned veneer repair (all of which can be seen in the detail photos and natural light video provided). What that said, the mix of walnut and maple wood composition is in overall excellent vintage condition. The drop-leaf functions exactly as designed via a set of two locking hinges and is weight-bearing. The fixed shelf built-in under the table top has a small divider making it the perfect place to store books and magazines. As purists we strive to keep our pieces in as original condition as possible. However we do offer restoration services and an inhouse, full-service carpentry shop. If you're interested in having this table restored please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing. This one-of-a-kind two-toned coffee table is highly functional, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use. Please view all photos and video for details on this coffee table's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
