About the Item

This antique writing desk was crafted in the Meiji Era (1868–1912). Made of chestnut wood and finished with Japanese black urushi lacquer, it features a rich, subdued tone and a calm, aged appearance. The overall design is clean and refined, with legs that are modest in thickness, creating a clean and well-balanced silhouette. Its form is simple yet quietly sophisticated. In traditional Japanese interiors, furniture was designed for floor-seated use, which is why this desk has a lower height compared to Western-style desks. Today, it can be beautifully repurposed as a low table, flower stand, or display surface in a variety of settings. Over time, the wood and lacquer have developed a warm, timeworn character, adding to the subtle charm that only antique furniture can offer. As an antique piece, minor scratches and marks may be present, each adding to its unique charm and the story it tells over time. Cleaned and disinfected with non-toxic solution. We have conducted a meticulous check for any broken or damaged areas, and the result is absolutely problem-free. It is in excellent condition.
