About the Item

This striking mid-century coffee table was crafted in France circa 1950 and is attributed to the famed Parisian design firm Maison Jansen. The elegant oval frame is executed in gilt bronze and rests on gently curved legs terminating in finely cast hoof feet. Each corner is adorned with detailed ram’s head mounts, a neoclassical motif frequently employed by Jansen in their luxurious and classically inspired interiors. The original oval glass top is inset within a narrow bronze gallery, appearing to float above the sculptural base. A central stretcher, capped with a decorative finial, anchors the structure and adds architectural presence to the refined silhouette. Founded in 1880, Maison Jansen was one of the most influential interior design firms of the 20th century, known for blending traditional French design with modern elements. They created interiors for European aristocracy, American industrialists, and even the White House under Jackie Kennedy. Their work is characterized by exquisite craftsmanship, classical references, and timeless glamour. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, the table is a statement piece that brings sophistication and grandeur to interiors ranging from French neoclassical to Hollywood Regency or transitional styles.
