About the Item

This newly restored rotating Lazy-Susan cocktail table was designed by Milo Baughman and produced by Thayer Coggin in crica 1968. Featuring a stunning Rosewood top with vivid grain and detail, and a lacquered white cylindrical base with white Formica top. The Rosewood top rotates when spun so that it can be used as a rotating Lazy Susan table while the formica center stays stationary. Restored with a French Polish, this gorgeous piece is ready to be placed into any luxury interior. We refinished the Rosewood with a French Polish giving it a thick glass-like finish which via the thicker harder surface protects the table from regular daily use and gives the vibrant Rosewood grain a lustrous and more exotic appearance. French Polish is the most expensive and labor intensive finish that is often reserved for the finest items, usually for exotic woods and often seen on important Rosewood and Macassar Ebony Art Deco cabinets. The deep watery-sheen is created through many hand applied coats and hand polished to a thick glass-like finish. The results are just exquisite, and this important piece is now ready for immediate placement in any high-end luxury designer project. This collectors piece is rare, partly because very few units were made, but also because these are in extremely high demand. With the popularity of curved 'conversation pit' styled sofa's, not many coffee tables can fit perfectly with them and function with the rotating Lazy Susan feature. This particular table was made to pair with the Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin curved sofa but can work with any alternate option include the De Sede Non-Stop sofa, Vladimir Kagan or Directional sofas or any other curved couch or sectional. We currently have several of these above options available, contact us for more info. Designed and debuted in 1968 as part of the Environment 70 Collection which was a collection advertised to be so designer focused, that you don't need to hire an interior designer. Such incredible collectibility, this example is prime for the consummate collector, interior designer, or art and design aficionado. This Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin rotating coffee (or tea) table would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: Height 15.25" x Diameter 58" CONDITION: Excellent restored condition. Rosewood top was fully refinished in a French Polish and exhibits deep vivid graining. French Polish is a thick multi-coat of lacquer that protects the wood underneath much better than other finishes. The lower portion of the base was refinished in a white lacquer to match the Formica top which was cleaned. Some light wear including faint scratching can be seen upon close inspection to the Formica top. Swivel top mechanism functions well and smoothly. Sturdy and structurally sound. Ready to be used immediately.

VK201 Rosewood Dining Table by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss, 1958, Signed
By Vladimir Kagan, Kagan-Dreyfuss, Inc.
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This rare and important model #VK-201 sculptured Rosewood and Walnut 'Round Extension Dining Table' by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss was designed in 1958, this example produced between 1958 and 1960, during Kagan's partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss which ended in 1960. This rare example is stamped with the Kagan-Dreyfuss branded marks on the underside of the table and under one of the two leaves, and serves as an important early example of this sought-after design, perfect for collectors, art and design investors, and interior designers working on high profile projects. This Model VK-201, described in Kagan's early catalogues as a 'Round Extension Dining Table in walnut with rosewood top' has Kagan's signature gorgeous sculpted legs in solid walnut along with a magnificent vivid-grained Rosewood top. Just look at the closeup photos of the sculpted edges and tailored legs... this table looks more like a sculpture than merely just furniture. Quality of materials and craftsmanship you don't find in todays products - this table is the epitome of the saying 'they don't make them like they used to'. Ultra refinement in this gorgeous collectors piece which extends from a dining or card / game / cafe table seating for four, to a larger dining or meeting table suitable for eight. With no leaves - the table is 48" round and with both leaves extends to 96" while retaining a very nice 48" width. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss (Kagan-Dreyfuss from 1950 to 1960) are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company...
