About the Item

Very rare sculptural brutalist Paul Evans stalagmite base coffee table signed PE 69. The bronze and resin composite base is in very good vintage condition showing its deep dark bronze patina. The table base measures Base 44” long by 14” deep by 15 1/4” high and retains its original flat polish glass top which measures 59 3/4" long by 29 7/8" deep by 3/4” thick. Studio made table was sold through Directional by Paul Evans in New Hope, PA and in very good vintage 1969 condition. Table is available for pick up in Los Angeles. The following was taken from Wikipedia, with thanks: Paul R. Evans II (20 May 1931 – 7 March 1987), known as Paul Evans, was an American-born furniture designer, sculptor, and artist, who is famous for his contributions to American furniture design and the American Craft movement of the 1970s, and with his work with the influential American manufacturer Directional Furniture. His creation of metal-sculpted furniture set him apart. He studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and, for a time, shared a showroom there with woodworker Phillip Lloyd Powell.
