About the Item

Meulière Stone Coffee Table by Frédéric Saulou Unique Piece Dimensions: D 80 x W 120 x H 35 cm. Materials: Powder-coated steel and Meulière stone. Weight: 120 kg. From one creation to another, the matter can present certain roughness and variations. Indeed, each piece is unique because of the natural appearance of the stone and its shaping. We carefully select our stones for the best result. Almost all the pieces are possible to be created made-to-measure for special sizes. The weight may vary. Please contact us. For several months, the designer Frédéric Saulou worked on the Parisian territory to exchange with local actors and create unique pieces using Meulière stone - a local stone emblematic of Paris, which was extracted from the construction site of line 18 of the future metro. of the Grand Paris Express. In the past, this stone was used to grind wheat in the region and for the construction of houses in the old Parisian countryside. “Pierre d’ici” questions the relationship between matter in space and its origin, between the earth and its extraction, in the context of the construction site of the Grand Paris Express. This set of furniture refers to the territory in full mutation between the historical context of the site and urbanization. Archaeological excavations have uncovered traces of man dating from the 5th to the 1st century BC, from the second Iron Age. Today, on this same territory, excavations have given way to other sites, such as the metro. The different pieces presented refer to these changing universes, both through the types of furniture used and in the use of the materials used. Meulière stone was recovered from the construction sites of line 18 of the future Grand Paris Express metro, a local resource whose quarries are now closed and are becoming difficult to exploit. The associated metal, a major element in the implementation of a construction site, symbolizes the link between the past and the present. It highlights the stone material and confirms the function of the object. The project is part of the landscape, both a vector of history and meaning. It also has made it possible to develop a common reflection around sustainability and the enhancement of local resources. In collaboration with Galerie philia, the Grand Paris Express company and the cultural institution of the 104. Frederic Saulou's sculpted design artworks introduce a series of works coming from research and partnerships between local ateliers and designers and implemented to another scale, that of the object and contemporary creation. Frédéric Saulou is a proeminent French contemporary designer. Considered by many institutions and critics as one of the most talented designers of the new generation in France. Born in 1989, Frédéric Saulou lives and works in Rennes, France. He graduated in space and environmental design at the Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués (LISAA) in 2011 and in object design at the Ecole Européenne Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Rennes (EESAB) in 2013. Frédéric will continue to perfect his experience within the Eric Gizard Associés agency and with the designer Frédéric Ruyant. In 2013, he founded the studio Frédéric Saulou Design Studio, an independent and multidisciplinary design and consulting agency that sees design as a space for research and exchange that allows him to develop a sensitive approach to forms and materials. Experimentation and research take precedence over his work in order to think of new materials and new uses. This accompanies his daily approach so that each project is conceived as a sculpture in its own right, between simplicity and technicality. His approach guides him towards a global approach but is also unique in his creations, thus creating particular interactions between the user and the object, between Industrial craftsmanship. Today Frédéric works on various projects, from objects to space, in series or limited editions and collaborates with prestigious institutions and brands such as the publishing houses Ligne Roset, Drugeot Manufacture, Brossier Saderne, Vista Alegre, Esprit Porcelaine Limoges, etc.
