Santa Rosa Bench in California Redwood in Stock
About the Item
This is a unique piece made from a single slab of California redwood sustainably harvested from a fallen treen in Humboldt county. I personally picked up the plank from a woodworker in Arcata while on a road trip up the coast; it was an off cut from a 20 foot long flitch cut board. At 19.5" wide, it could double as either a large bench or a small coffee table.
The time honored mortise and tenon joinery on the base is hand crafted and each joint secured with a maple pin. It's built to last a lifetime, while simultaneously displaying the delicate beauty of the wood. The piece is finished with an all natural oil and wax blend that enhances the deep garnet tone that is characteristic of the iconic California species.

West of Noble is a Los Angeles based design practice dedicated to the pursuit of making wooden furniture by hand. It was founded by designer and itinerant woodworker Greg Mitchell in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2011, but is inspired by a lifetime of travel, time spent on the sea, various odd jobs, wooden sailboats, and friends and family; without whom the company would not exist. Our designs are guided by the making process, and the unpredictable nature of our chosen material. We aim for the simplest line in each piece, believing it is only finished when there is nothing left to take away.
