About the Item

This item represents a significant chapter in the history of the German furniture industry. A coffee table by KONDOR Möbel-Perfektion This piece of furniture features a top layer of walnut veneer with graphic inlays set off to the side, attached to a solid base made of pear or apple wood. Ø 110cms ~ height: 55.5cms The history of the Kondor Industrial Park begins in 1895 when the master carpenter and building contractor Wilhelm Schnakenbeck relocated his business from Paulinenstraße 5 to Lagesche Straße 15. He had already constructed a residential building with a steam sawmill and planing mill on the premises. The factory manufactured doors, windows, staircases, moldings, strip flooring, and more. Kondor-Flugzeugwerke GmbH purchased the property at Lagesche Straße 31 in June 1918, following the death of Wilhelm Schnakenbeck. A factory was constructed to produce wooden propellers and wings made of plywood, trellis panels, wire, and canvas. The Treaty of Versailles (1919) prohibited Germany from building airplanes. This marked the end of aircraft construction in Lemgo. However, the sawmill was permitted to continue operations, primarily manufacturing windows, doors, staircases, and other similar products. Furthermore, the company provided interior fittings, roofing and half-timbered constructions, as well as the supply of construction and joinery timber, floors, trellis panels, and more. The war caused a fundamental rupture for Kondor. Table production was effectively halted. Ammunition boxes and other essential war items had to be produced instead. In July 1945, Kondor began producing small pieces of furniture, including tables, living room cabinets, and upholstered furniture. We expanded our production to include music cabinets, radio and television cabinets for companies such as Siemens and Nordmende. In 1952, a new production building was constructed. After discontinuing music cabinet production, the company boldly expanded its product range to include desks, chairs, cabinets, and typewriter tables. Kondor was one of the ten largest desk specialists in the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. In 1969, a four-story factory was built on Lagesche Strasse, right next to Schlingmann. However, around ten years later, at the beginning of the 1980s, sales fell for the first time due to the sharp rise in oil prices. It was no longer possible to compete with competitors who were producing in low-wage countries. The company filed for bankruptcy on October 6, 1992, after changes in management and the sale of land and real estate. This marked the end of Kondor's eventful history.
