About the Item

A unique and well known Spanish 20th century Gilt Metal and Glass coffee table by Emilio Rey, circa 1960s. This attention grabbing coffee table is designed with a Gilt Metal base and was made to look like tasselled rope with undulating curves along the top edge flowing down each leg which end in a tassel. From the tassel, the movement continues to form a central double tour reserve just above floor level. This gorgeous table has a very special Glass top that follows the curves of the base below. Emilio Rey (1932–1988) was a Spanish designer celebrated for his innovative approach to furniture, particularly coffee tables. Rey’s coffee tables are iconic, featuring sculptural bases—such as twisted, tasseled gilt-metal ropes—and elegant glass tops with unique shapes. His designs reinterpret traditional styles with contemporary flair, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and a commitment to both form and function.
