Brushed stainless steel base and clear glass top coffee table by François Monnet, produced by Kappa, France, circa 1970s.
Most of the furniture created by François Monnet feature entire steel sheets that are bent or curved, therefore, these pieces have a unique look.
Many of the pieces created by François Monnet were produced during the 1970s when he was employed by the Kappa.
He also spent time working for the company Uginox and was among the five designers that were approached to use steel to liven up interior design. The designers who worked alongside François Monnet designing for Uginox included Maria Pergay and Jacques Charpentier, and the pieces they produced provided a major impetus to Modern Art movement. As François Monnet worked on incorporating steel into his designs, he became a big influencer in the trend to make the metal more than just a building material used in the creation of skyscrapers.
