A rare example fron Tim Bates for Pieff Mid-Century Modern Gilded chrome & clear glass coffee table. A remarkable large square coffee table, designed by Tim Bates for English manufacturer Pieff. Having a thick toughened smoked glass top (0.8cm) with rounded corners, the table is raised on a shaped gilded chrome tubular metal frame in the Bauhaus/Regency style of the 70s. Not a sharp edge in sight! A truly unique piece with large scaling long and wide. With more than a nod to Bauhaus design principles of simplicity, functionality, modernism and beauty, this statement piece embodies what Pieff was all about: stunning, minimalist class for those with exclusive taste - they described themselves as "Luxury furniture from the late 20th Century." The British manufacturer kept their design range numbers down and what they produced was extremely high quality, long-lasting and much sought after - they could be found in some of the best palaces, embassies, offices and luxury resorts around the world and were sold by the best high-end retailers, such as Harrods and Heals. Condition: Great condition throughout with some signs of use and pitting. Original ageing and Patina is present throughout this item , structurally sound. The base has been polished, but shows traces of use, and a bit of chrome loss in one leg (pipctured) The glass is free off chips and breaks but has light scratches, Dimensions: 86 cm wide x 86 cm depth x 32.7 cm high From the web The pride our craftsmen take in handling these materials shows in every last stitch.
