Pietra Serena' Inca' Console by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, Italy, 1978

About the Item

Pietra Serena' Inca' Console by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, Italy, 1978 The "Inca" range represents an advancement of the previously established "Eros" system, maintaining the same structural principles while utilizing a different and more durable material. This series is initially crafted from Pietra Serena sandstone with a sanded finish, making it particularly suitable for outdoor environments. The design incorporates a rectangle-shaped tabletop supported by legs configured in a truncated pyramid shape with a trapezoidal section. This structural arrangement ensures that only the two sloping planes are responsible for bearing the weight of the tabletop. In contrast, the vertical planes do not contribute to the overall structural integrity. The item exhibits minor signs of normal wear and tear but remains in excellent condition. This larger rectangle console was part of the original late 1970s production for Skipper, as confirmed by the original Skipper label attached underneath. This remarkable console is in good condition and will undoubtedly add a distinctive and beautiful touch to any space for many years. Dimensions: 220 x 40 x 72 cm (height). Angelo Mangiarotti is acknowledged as one of the prominent figures in 20th-century Italian design. He was a dedicated and erudite designer, capable of embracing the principles of the Modern Movement while transcending them through his experimental and distinctive designs. His approach can be likened to that of Mies van der Rohe, who is distinguished by an engineering background, yet it also reflects the creative freedom emblematic of Jean Prouvé. Furthermore, like Constantin Brancusi, Mangiarotti's work aligns with the construction technologies of his era. This synthesis of influences defines the legacy of Angelo Mangiarotti.
