About the Item
A very fine quality antique French rosewood & kingwood marquety inlaid & ormolu mounted partner's writing table or Bureau Plat, in the manner of Jacques Dubois, circa 1860.
This very attractive French writing table is of the highest quality, the desk is made from featherbanded rosewood, and is finely inlaid with satinwood wood marquetry leaf designs.
The table is of serpentine bombe shape and has an inlaid Burgundy colored blind tooled & gilded leather writing surface, the border is inlaid with a band of satinwood inlay of leaves and the table edge is mounted with gilt bronze banding.
The table having three drawers to each side (hence being a partner's desk) with corresponding marquetry, the drawers are mounted with gilt bronze ormolu mounts & lock escutcheons, the original key is present. The sides of the table are bombe shaped & are similarly inlaid, the table is raised on four cabriole legs with gilt bronze ormolu mounts to the knees & gilt bronze sabots to the feet.
The gilt bronze mounts have been very finely cast by the lost wax method & fire gilded, the leather writing surface was most likely professionally replaced in the early 20th century, all the drawers are dovetailed & the secondary woods are white oak. This writing table is a triumph of the French cabinet maker's skills at their very best, condition is excellent, this beautiful elegant antique partner's writing table is ready to grace your space.
