About the Item

A fine antique 19th century French Louis XV tulipwood and marquetry, ormolu mounted bureau plat, serpentine shaped writing table, circa 1880. The table having an inset brown & red hued tooled & gilded leather writing surface, the edge of the table with a substantial gilded bronze 'egg & dart' trim. The serpentine shaped base with ebony panels inset with fruitwood floral marquetry, a single drawer to the center and corresponding marquerty panels to the sides and rear. The desk is raised on featherbanded tulipwood cabriole legs, with ornate ormolu mounts to the knees and a line of ormolu trim connecting a gilt bronze sabot to the foot. Condition is excellent, this elegant and sumptuously decorated bureau plat is ready to grace your home or office.
