About the Item
Art Deco pagoda like a writing desks, side tables or home office desks attributed to Hugo Gorge circa 1925 Vienna.
Hugo Gorge ( 1883 - 1934 ) was a popular architect and designer in the interwar period and famed for his high-quality and graceful interior designs.
This wonderful small table shows two drawers from walnut veneer with beautiful grain and maple interior, spruce and plywood.
While the slightly curved feet underline the graceful appearance, the edges from the tabletop are framed with darker colored walnut and feature a small balustrade.
The surface is carefully cleaned and shellac polished by hand. The brown color tone from polished walnut shows a wonderful warmth.
Great to present the pagoda like desk or table as a freestanding home office desk for your laptop and papers, wonderful sight from each side.
Please let me draw your attention to the amazing brass handles, these furniture fittings are exposed at the museum for Applied Art in Vienna. The fittings were designed by Hugo Gorge c. 1920 and manufactured by the Wiener Werkstätte.
The condition is very good with minor signs of age like fine scratches.

Hugo Gorge ( 1883 - 1934 ) was a famed architect and designer in the interwar era.
His designs were featured through its simpleness and clear proportions.
Hugo Gorge was a member of the small circle from designer and architects, who belonged to the
Werkbund. His popular colleagues Adolf Loos and Josef Frank were representative of the Moderne
in Vienna just like him.
He also designed two houses for the Werkbundsiedlung, No. 43 and No. 44 and the interior for the
house No. 43.
Hugo Gorge had a great design field, he designed metal chandeliers for the firm Melzer Neuhart,
fittings for Wiener Werkstätte and ceramics for Wienerberger.
Also Hugo Gorge was taking part at the world exhibition integrated in the Austrian exhibitor team as
art director for the interior firm Lorenz and Reichel and created beautiful furniture pieces.
