About the Item

This early 19th-century English Regency writing desk exemplifies the refined elegance of the period through its restrained silhouette, balanced proportions, and decorative details. The rectangular top is constructed in mahogany with a beautifully figured veneer, finished with a delicate crossbanded edge that adds refinement. Beneath, two working drawers span the front apron, each fitted with circular brass pulls and an inset lock. The reverse side mimics the drawer layout with false fronts, maintaining a symmetrical profile ideal for use as a center table. The elegant silhouette is further defined by the pierced side panels, which feature finely turned baluster spindles — a classical Regency motif — set between gently curved supports. Scrolled brackets provide visual transition from the apron to the legs, which are splayed in typical Regency fashion and terminate in brass casters for easy movement. With its light footprint and decorative form, this piece functions beautifully as a writing desk, library table, or sofa table. Its warm patina, graceful legs, and balance of form and function make it a versatile addition to traditional or transitional interiors.
