About the Item

Exceptional Late 18th Century English Mahogany Work Table with Carved Paw Feet United Kingdom, circa 1790 A superb George III period work or writing table, crafted in richly figured plum pudding mahogany and standing on boldly carved hairy paw feet with scrolling acanthus supports. Of compact and elegant proportions, this finely made piece features a hinged central lid opening to a fitted interior compartment, flanked by twin side flaps with additional storage. The frieze is carved with classical motifs including a central fan and scrolled corner flourishes, while the central cupboard door is adorned with a crisply carved ribbon-tied laurel wreath. Six drawers—three to either side—retain their original gilt brass rosette pulls. The carcass is constructed in solid mahogany with oak-lined drawers and pegged panelled back, exemplifying late 18th century English craftsmanship at its finest. This rare and decorative piece would suit both traditional and contemporary interiors, and functions beautifully as a writing table, dressing table, or collector’s cabinet. Provenance: Removed from a stately home in Worcestershire, England. Dimensions: Height: 31.1 in. (79 cm) Width: 36.6 in. (93 cm) Depth: 20.5 in. (52 cm) Condition: Very good antique condition.
