French Kidney-Shaped Louis XV Style Writing Desk, Late 19th Century A beautifully crafted French writing desk, or bureau plat, dating from the late 19th century and inspired by the Louis XV style. Its elegant kidney shape (forme rognon) makes it both distinctive and highly decorative, ideal for a refined interior. Expertly constructed with quality craftsmanship, the desk features finely matched wood veneers and a subtle, curved form that invites use from all angles. The top is inset with a leather writing surface, richly tooled in gold around the edges. This original leather shows signs of wear consistent with its age and use, giving the piece authentic character. For those preferring a refreshed surface, we offer professional replacement by our master leatherworker for an additional €500. The top is further enhanced by a decorative brass band that follows the sinuous line of the edge. Three drawers in the front provide useful storage and are opened with the original key. The bronze doré mounts are finely cast, with exquisite detail: claw feet, shell motifs on the upper legs (chutes), and an elegant escutcheon at the center drawer. This is a desk that balances form and function—perfect for use in a study, library, or as a statement piece in a living space.
