About the Item

Fine suite of Empire style ormolu-mounted mahogany library furniture, Maison Lalande, Paris, 1890-1900, comprising: a bureau plat, a large cartioneire and three tub chairs, each with applied gilt bronze crowned female headed terms, anthemion, lyres flanked by swans and leaf tips; the bureau plat with a gilt-tooled leather-inset writing surface, three frieze drawers, one impressed with signature, Maison Lalande, Devouge et Colosiez Suers, 34 rue de Charenton, Paris, opposed by false drawers, raised on tapering straight legs ending in ormolu lion's paw feet, the cartioneire with twenty-seven gilt-tooled leather-fronted papier carton drawers, on bun feet, the chairs with leather upholstered front and back, padded arms, a bowed loose cushion seat and straight tapered legs ending in bronze feet. Bureau plat: Height 31 in., width 6 ft. 7 in., depth 39 in. Cartioneire: Height 6 ft 7 in., width 5 ft., depth 18 1/2 in. Chairs: Height back to floor 43 in., width 23 in. cf. Two turn of the century advertisements for Maison Lalande, Devouge et Colosiez, one showing an interior with a related Empire style suite of library furniture and proclaiming they provide "Installations for Chateaux and Villas", the other, also an interior room shot, is dated 1907. Condition report: Excellent condition. Color of mahogany is a well patinated dark brown, the ormolu mounts are of top quality casting with excellent gilt color. There leather fronted drawers are all in excellent condition.

A most elegant and high quality French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Kingwood, Satinwood and Ormolu center table/desk, signed Grimard, Paris. The table is raised by four slender circular tapered fluted legs ending with topie shaped supports with Ormolu sabots and top reeded Ormolu bands. The four legs are joined by an 'X' shaped stretcher decorated by an Ormolu band in a woven pattern on both sides of the stretcher and leading to two circular reserves with Ormolu rosettes above a Rosewood mottled tier. The top of the legs are decorated by a richly carved pierced Ormolu bands with intertwined berried laurel and beaded designs all over Ormolu chandelles in each flute.
