One of a kind Bureau Plat

About the Item

Austria and Italy, 18th century The talents of Austrian master artisans, at the time of Marie Antoinette, have been combined to result in this wonderful example of luxuriously craftsmanship Bureau De Dame commissioned by an Italian Noble Family. This extremely rare and outstanding desk made of Tuja veneers and solid Sicomoro, a rare wood that never grows old, is enriched with finely chiseled gilt- bronze details. Each bronze is an unique work of art, created with the lost wax method. The desk is raised by impressive cabriole legs with richly chased ormolu mounts. The Noble Provenance from Giustiniani – Bandini Palace in Rome. The centre piece' s provenance is very important. This writing table was once owned by the noble Roman family Giustiniani Bandini. It was a piece of furniture of Giustiniani-Bandini's Palace. In particular this desk belonged to the private collection of Donna Maria Sofia dei Principi Giustiniani-Bandini. She was the Countess of Gravina, Princess of Ramacca and Countess of Newburgh. Giustiniani Bandini Family History The Giustininani-Bandini family enclose two old dynasty: To the old Bandini family joined the family of the Principi Giustiniani, expired in the XIX century In 1280 the Bandini family set in Camerino and covered Prestigious position for four century. They acquired the marchesato di Lanciano and Rustano and in 1754 restored the Rocca di Lanciano. The Giustiniani recognize their origins in the figure of the Roman Emperor Justinianum. Since 1635 the side of the family from Genova established in Chio and set a monarchy for more than two century. After the conquer of Chio by the Turkey, the Giustiniani family moved to Rome. Andrea Giustiniani, nephew of Vincenzo Giustiniani, married Marietta Pamphili, nephew of Pope Innocenzo X and become Principe di Bassano During the First World War Don Giuseppe and Don Sigismondo, last male descent of the family, died while fighting. Their sister, Donna Maria Sofia dei Principi Giustiniani-Bandini, Countess of Newburgh, married Conte Don Manfredi Gravina, dei Principi di Ramacca, High Commissioner of the League of Nations and captain of the army of H. Form and function converge in this exceptional Louis XV-style bureau plat graced with eight elegant Sèvres Porcelain plaques. Framing these delightful, hand painted floral and fowl-themed plaques is a network of exquisite gilt bronze. Supporting the leather-topped table are graceful cabriole legs, a hallmark of fine Louis XV taste, that are crowned by gilt bronze caryatids and terminate in gilt bronze mounts. What makes this desk even more stunning is the inclusion of three concealed drawers that are opened only by the spring-loaded secret release mechanisms located underneath. The first porcelain mounted furnishings appeared sometime in the mid-18th century in the shops of the foremost Parisian art dealers. These furnishings successfully, and quite beautifully, married renowned Sèvres Porcelain with fine furniture to create a new segment of the decorative arts that appealed greatly to the aristocracy, especially women.
