About the Item

Dining room set containing Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Stolefabrik set of six dining chairs with Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper 'Eros' dining table Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Stolefabrik, set of six dining chairs, oak, leather, brass, Denmark, 1964 These dining chairs remind of the classical foldable 'director-chairs', yet this design by Danish designer Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) is from a more sturdy character. Almost as a trademark of Mogensen these chairs are executed in solid oak, with seating and back from thick cognac saddle leather. The lines and forms are simple, yet with the right amount of tension. The wood-joints and cross-connections are nice details to these dining chairs. The buckles and straps on the back enriches the saddle leather in a vigorous manner. An all-over patina is visible on the natural leather. Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) was a Danish designer. His designs are defined by being high-quality, simple and functional. Mogensen can be seen as a democratic and idealistic designer. He aimed to solve basic problems in residential living. This meant that he designed for the middle-class and everyday use instead of for the more exclusive costumer. Contrary to his contemporaries in other countries such as Le Corbusier, Mogensen did not work with new modern materials such as steel and glass. Instead he chose to work with tested materials such as leather and wood. Being trained by Kaare Klint, he was very focussed on the human body and his ideal was to create comfortable furniture, not furniture that would end up in a museum. His designs are therefore honest, functional, simple and production friendly. Mogensen was extremely productive: hundreds of his designs went into production in his lifetime. Please note that the leather is in good, used condition with signs of age and use, including marks, scratches, and stains. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists. Dimensions of the chairs: listed on the page Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, dining table ‘Eros’, white marble, 1970s This sculptural table by Angelo Mangiarotti is a skilful example of postmodern design. The table is executed in white marble. The round tabletop features no joints or clamps and is architectural in its structure. The table top rests on one cone-shaped leg in the middle. The top 'locks' itself onto the marble cone and keeps in place because of the weight of the material. As a consequence, the entire structure is stable and strong. Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that would stand the test of time. Being schooled as an architect, Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right material and the right sizing for his designs. Dimensions of the table: Height: 71.50 cm / 28.15 inches Diameter: 135 cm / 53.15 inches
