18th Century Welsh Oak Farm Table

About the Item

Fine 18th century Welsh oak farmhouse table, the vividly grained three plank top with breadboard ends over molded apron, the front apron carved, standing on square tapered legs with several extensions, the whole possessing good rich color and patination. This table epitomizes the proverb "Waste not, want not" (originally willful waste makes woeful want), which was surely the motto of many a farmer, whether well off or not. It was common practice to repair, patch and reuse anything that still had something left to offer. That the legs on this table have been spliced not once but twice (like the kid with patches on his patches) is a testament to how important a table like this would be to the family that owned it. Top is removable.
