About the Item

Angelo Mangiarotti for La Sorgente del Mobile, extendable dining table from the 'Programma S11' series, lacquered wood, Italy, 1972 This extendable table by Angelo Mangiarotti, part of the Programma S11 series from 1972, represents a clear synthesis of formal restraint and functional innovation. The top is simple and clear that can be transformed to an elongated oval shape. The base structure is particularly telling – where the object becomes almost architectural. It is composed of a set of evenly spaced vertical slats, arranged radially around a circular plinth; a visual rhythm that connects the table to broader themes in mid-century modern architecture – especially the articulation of load-bearing structures. The spacing between slats allows for partial transparency, offering glimpses through the form and creating a lightness that contrasts with the table’s mass. Within the context of 1970s Italian industrial design, this table illustrates a move toward modularity and adaptability without sacrificing aesthetic clarity. Width tabletop extended: 159.5 cm I 62.9 in. Width table not extended: 119.50 cm I 47.05 in.

Angelo Mangiarotti 'Castore' Dining Table by Karakter
By Angelo Mangiarotti
Located in Berlin, DE
The diameter given applies to the table top. The base measures 38cm in diameter. Castore is a glass and marble table by Italian architect, sculptor and designer Angelo Mangiarotti. Designed in 1975 for Sorgente dei Mobili, the distinct design is now presented by Karakter. The round glass top rests on a heavy marble pillar, and visually, Mangiarotti would have it seem that only a small marble bowl on top of the glass plate is holding it in place. The rounded corners on both the pillar and the bowl ads a sense of softness to the otherwise heavy aesthetics of the marble. The marble bowl can be removed and used as an individual element. Material: Pillar and bowl in marble, table top in 10mm tempered glass, felt underneath the pillar, cork underneath the bowl. Finish: Marbles: Bianco Carrara, Nero Marquina or Pietra Grey...
