Charles Pfister Primavera Dining Table
About the Item
Pfister's untimely death, nearly one year later, resulted in very limited production of these designs therefore this table is uncommon.
It is constructed of honey colored primavera wood, with the top in a starburst pattern, radiating from a burled center. The single pedestal base alternates radiused wood with vertical slots. Primavera is a costly and uncommon tropical hardwood, sometimes referred to as "white mahogany." With addition of the two leaves the size is 91" long by 46" wide.
In a fall 1989 review of the High Point Furniture Market, the NY Times had this to say about Pfister's collection:
"In one of the market's handsomest offerings, Baker introduced a 60-piece collection by Charles Pfister, the '21' Club designer also known for his office furniture; he had never done a residential collection. The pieces, many executed in honey-colored primavera wood with canted corners and concentric brass pulls, reflected the influence of 18th- and 19th-century Russia and 18th-century Sweden, as well as the 1950's furniture of T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbing."
