About the Item

Gaspar Homar - Art Nouveau dining room / salon / parlor, Barcelona, 1910s. Made of cherrywood and other Fine woods. Museum-quality collector's items, excellent original condition. The Art Nouveau dining room/salon/parlor consists of: - A buffet - A shelf - A showcase - A large dining table - Four armchairs, and - Six chairs. This extraordinary dining room/salon was created by the Spanish-Catalan Art Nouveau architect, furniture designer and cabinetmaker Gaspar Homar (1870-1953). Homar is regarded as the best representative of Catalan Modernism (Spanish: el modernisme) in the field of decoration and furniture production. His furniture reflects the well-being and aspirations of the flourishing cosmopolitan bourgeoisie and is characterised by the use of precious and expensive wood as well as inlaid and carved works. This Art Nouveau dining room/salon originates from the late creative phase of Homar and is stylistically at the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Characteristic of this are the clear lines of the furniture, the restraint of floral decor and the integration of the marquetry into the elegant basic form of the furniture. For reference, two additional images are shown (images 19 and 20): Image 19 is an earlier bed and night table by Homar, depicting inlays that show the colors used and the craftsmanship of Gaspar Homar. Image 20 is a late combined sofa/cabinet by Homar. The shape and structure of this late furniture, as well as the use of different colored wood types, is almost identical to the shape and structure of the offered parlor. The costs of the restoration are included in the purchase price.
