A Regency extending dining table by Morgan & Sanders, suppliers to Lord Nelson
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
This large mahogany imperial action dining table has rounded ends each housing the telescopic action that extends the table to varying lengths, three extra leaves and eight brass clips. It is supported on six turned tapering and reeded legs with brass caps and castors, each end with large brass handle engraved ‘Patent Morgan & Sanders Inventors & Manufacturers, 16 & 17 Catherine Street Strand London‘. Morgan & Sanders was established in 1800 by Thomas Morgan & Joseph Sanders, both of whom had worked for the cabinetmaker Thomas Butler at 13–14 Catherine Street, London. Initially, they produced campaign furniture, that is, furniture which could be easily knocked down and packed fairly flat, for the use of officers in military service. The Napoleonic War required an ever-expanding British Army and Navy, thus also increasing the demand for all types of campaign furniture, from collapsible beds...

Half Moon Dining Table Travertine Marble Brass, Geometric Lara Bohinc
By Lara Bohinc
Located in Holland, AMSTERDAM
The juxtapositioning of the charismatic Travertine picks up another of Bohinc’s central inspirations for this collection: The historic buildings of Venice, where complex marble inlay has been a decorative art for centuries. Ancient stone marquetry work such as Pietra Dura and opus sectile is closely related to the jeweler’s art of marrying contrasting stones into a perfect whole, underlining Lara’s own design vocabulary. Using Pietra Dura and opus sectile techniques to create Lara Bohinc’s contemporary designs involves both state of the art CNC manufacturing and countless hours of painstaking hand-finishing. The half moon dining table...

Mahogany and Metal Extensible Dining Table. England, 19th Century
Located in Madrid, ES
Rectangular table extendable by panels and mechanical system manually operated by crank, made of carved mahogany wood and metal elements (leg ends, mechanism, sheaves). The top board has been left smooth, with a slight recess towards the edges that curves the area and extends through the corners of the piece of furniture, contributing to the comfort of its use as a dining or conference table; The legs present an outstanding work of carving and turning, with a stipe shape and a memory of architectural columns for its combination of moldings, highlighting the polygonal base and the fact that it retains the wheels or small metal sheaves that help to move the piece of furniture. Both the wood chosen for the table (mahogany), and the lack of decorative elements (which enhances the quality of the material and the lines) are common features in the old English furniture...
