Restored Extendable Dining Table, by Halabala, UP Zavody, Walnut, Czech, 1930s

About the Item

Table model J-121 - also known as "Spider" Height: 77 cm (30.3 in) Diameter: 139 cm (54.7 in) Thanks to the ingenious system of extending leaves, the table can be flexibly adjusted to four different widths: Folded table without leaves: Diameter 139 cm (54.7 in - for 4 to 6 people) 1 inserted leaf: Width 241 cm (95 in - for 10 people) 2 inserted leaves: Width 343 cm (135 in - for 14 people) 3 inserted leaves: Width 445 cm (175 in - for 18 to 20 people) Introducing an absolutely exceptional jewel of Art Deco design from the 1930s, originating from the renowned ÚP Závody and bearing the unmistakable signature of the master Jindřich Halabala. This dining table is a unique variation of the highly sought-after model J-121, and in its execution, it far surpasses its standard counterpart. While the regular J-121 table boasts a diameter of 125 cm and two additional leaves, this exclusive example features an impressive diameter of 139 cm and comes with no less than three extending leaves. Each of these leaves adds a remarkable 102 cm, allowing for an unprecedented variability in the length of the table. When fully extended, the table reaches a breathtaking width of 445 cm and elegantly accommodates up to twenty guests! An absolute rarity are the massive legs of the table, crafted from precious walnut wood. During this period, walnut was primarily used for veneering, making such robust solid walnut legs a truly exceptional feature that adds unparalleled character and a luxurious appearance to this table. The tabletop and all the extending leaves are made from first-class beech blockboard, masterfully veneered with stunning walnut veneer featuring a rich and unique grain that captivates with its natural beauty. The table has undergone sensitive restoration and boasts a new, meticulously applied polish that underscores its exceptional quality. This monumental dining table is not merely a piece of furniture but a true work of art with tremendous utility. It represents a unique opportunity to own an exclusive design masterpiece by Jindřich Halabala, which will become the centerpiece of any prestigious space or a place for unforgettable moments with your loved ones. It has been re-polished with polyutherane piano lacquer by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process. This item features classic Bauhaus design elements. Elements of this style are neutral colors and occasional bright primary colors. Bauhaus designers avoided the fussy and pretentious, looking for clean, modern lines. Perfect for a timeless yet modern look.
