"Rosanna" dining table by Erwan Boulloud

About the Item

Sublime "Rosanna" dining table in brass marquetry and jade stones inlays. The feet in stainless steel have the same diameter and placement as the jade stones right above. Limited and signed piece by the artist Erwan Boulloud. From the Fluctus collection. "Vibrations, oscillations, wave flows of serpentine lines, concave or convex curves, concentric ripples... These physical phenomena are all generated by waves. Scientific dictionaries describe a wave as a "propagation of a disturbance whose elongation is a periodic function of the variables of time and space." In short, we can think of waves as moving disturbances. From oscillating waves to solitary waves to shock waves, they exist in a wide array of mechanic, gravitational, and electromagnetic categories. Ocean waves, sound, and light are all types of waves produced by accelerated charged particles. For a long time, light was seen as a gift from the gods, but then the scholars of antiquity, such as Euclid, began pondering its true origin and nature. Around the year 1000, the mathematician Alhazen understood that light came from objects. Drawing from his numerous experiments, he became the first to establish the laws of reflection and refraction. Science was enjoying a golden age in the Arab world at the time, thanks to an approach based on observation and experimentation. Then, the knowledge spread farther afield. In Europe, Galileo moved from geometric optics to instrumental optics by crafting a telescope to study the stars, which he used to discover the Milky Way, satellites of Jupiter, craters of the Moon, and sunspots. He also sought to find out the speed of light, but his instruments were too rudimentary. It was Christian Huygens who posited, in the seventeenth century, that light is a propagating wave or vibration. One hundred years later, Arago, Young, and Fraser proved the wavelike nature of light by discovering the phenomena of diffraction, interference, and polarization. Ever since, physical phenomena such as light, sound, and probability waves have fascinated and inspired both science and art." Erwan Boulloud
