Tabula Magna Dining Table by Oscar Tosquets Blanca for Driade Aleph, '1991'

About the Item

A extraordinarily stately extendable dining table in cherry and wenge woods designed by Spanish designer Oscar Tosquets Blanca in 1991 for Driade Aleph. His aim was to design a table that could be easily extended with extension panels stored as part of the table and not separately, the surface should always be completely level, the legs should not get in the way of the people sitting at the table, the curve of the table should facilitate communication, and the mechanisms used should be simple and silent. All of which he perfectly nailed in this beautiful and ingenious design! Oscar Tusquets Blanca (born in Barcelona in 1941) is a multi-faceted artist, architect, designer, painter and writer who co-founded BD Ediciones de Diseño (aka BD Barcelona Design). His work is exhibited in the MoMA and Metropolitan Museum in New York City, Paris' George Pompidou Centre and the Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Vitra Design Museum, Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts, and London's Victorian & Albert Museum. In good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. (See photos.) 111” x 47.5” x 29” when extended 59” x 47.5” x 29” when closed.
